The Reality of Chicken Factory Farming in the US

In the United States, the scale of chicken factory farming is staggering. At any given moment, approximately 1.6 billion chickens are confined in factory farm conditions. This includes 1.2 billion broiler (meat) chickens and 400 million egg-laying hens.

To put this into perspective, the 1.2 billion broiler chickens are crammed into just 32 square miles of land. This translates to about 58,000 chickens per acre—a density 115 times higher than the recommended humane limit of 500 chickens per acre.
